Risk Management Tips for Driving Schools

Many factors contribute to driving safety. Some are obvious, like bad weather and poor roads; however, there are five less apparent causes that can increase your risk on the road today.

As a company that offers driving lessons, Sprint Driving School understands the importance of safety for our clients, drivers and surrounding traffic. As much as the responsibilities lie with us, our learners also need to know what they can do to ensure they stay safe. They must know when and how we may intervene so they aren’t alarmed when faced with challenging road situations.

Here are some of our risk management tips:

-       When moving, make sure that you give the students simple messages that they can understand clearly. Look well ahead so you can identify potential problems and prepare yourself to deal with them if the learner doesn't notice them.

-       You should choose a course of action based on what your students know. A course that is too complex may overwhelm them. A simpler approach will allow them to grasp essentials.

-       If you do have any reason why you feel your learners won’t understand the danger they are in, then take immediate action before they get hurt. Do not allow them to learn from an incident if you know they are likely to try something dangerous again.

Aside from the above-mentioned tips, please make sure you do the following as well:

-       Take precautions to protect yourself and others – always wearing your seatbelt can save your life or the life of a passenger.

-       Drive defensively. They recognise behavioural cues that help them foresee how some other drivers will behave or react. Because many drivers act without stopping to think or communicating, you must learn to look for cues.

-       Check that your brakes are in good working order, that your tyres are properly inflated, and that your windows are clean.

-       Check to see if you're feeling awake and clear-headed. Keep yourself in check if you're physically exhausted or have too much on your mind, it will keep you from paying total focus to your driving.

-       Lastly, you should not stop learning about road hazards even though you already have your licence. Always be aware of situations and pay attention to what's happening when driving. The more seriously you take driving, the greater the driver you will be.

Takeaways

Be aware of any potential safety issues when driving on the roads, including road rage from other motorists and even aggression from your driver if things aren't going your way. Consider ways to reduce these risks.
